Our last article covered the Creation story for the World of Camlann. Today we continue with that mythology created by N3rdal3rt and talk about some of the darker times. Enjoy…
Heaven & Earth are Burning
The Journal The Age of Dragons had been a most prosperous time for the beings of Camlann. Their most adept pupils, the races of elf and dwarf, did learn well and begin fledgling civilizations of their kind. While the younger races of men did still huddle in tribes and live a life of barbarity, the elves and dwarves did begin to construct the first of their great cities. The Dragons did look on this with pride, and it was in this pride that the dark host of devils & demons did find their way back into Camlann.
In the darkness, did they whisper unto the dragons. They did convince the mightiest dragons that they should be venerated as Gods, and that the pitiful creatures that crawled upon the face of Camlann were subject to the desires of their Dragon masters. They did convince the Dragons that creation was the province of godhood, and for all to see that the Dragons were indeed gods they too must create. But the dragons could not create new life, for this was only the rite of true gods. So with their wicked magics did they set about to pervert the existing beings of Camlann. And so the world began to swell with orcs and trolls, ogres and wyverns, all manner of dread and evil things. Thus began the Age of Tyranny.
The Dragons did hide their betrayal of the gods for a time. But the changes upon Camlann did not go unnoticed. So did Aunseir the Supreme Justicar send Auranon, his first son by Lavena the Eternal Fire, to uncover the cause of the lands corruption. Auranon left no stone unturned while he did investigate. He did return to the Celestial Court of his grandsire Holy Uronseir Emperor of the Heavens and inform the Celestial Host that the darklings had returned and were the cause of the folly of the dragons.
Enraged did Aunseir become and he donned his brilliant plate armor Sun Spire, and did hold aloft his great glaive Sun Strike and prepare to lead the armies of Heaven. But did Auranon, on bended knee, ask his father and grandsire if he could be given the honor of leading the Celestial Host to battle. Pleased his father was to allow his first born to take the mantle of leadership and assert himself as the General of Heaven. With his father at his side Auranon did muster the celestial forces and lead them into the vile darkness to confront the host of evil.
And it was a trap. For during his time on Camlann did Auranon come into contact with vile demons, and while he tortured them for their trespass unto Camlann did they begin to speak sickly sweet words of praise in his name. They did convince him that he and not Holy Uronseir should rule both the Heavens and the Earth. He did begin to believe them and lust for power over all. And in that darkness Auranon did forge a pact with the darklings, for they called him king, to destroy the Celestial and Terrestrial Hosts and usurp Heaven for himself. As a sign of his re-birth as the Darkling King his unholy minions did cry unto him by his new name. Sidion.
The armies of Heaven were all but destroyed and brave Aunseir himself wounded by his treacherous son. Wielding a great sword named Soul Reaper, forged for him by his darkling minions in the fires of Hell itself, did Sidion cleave through and destroy Sun Spire. Wounded and without armor Aunseir did still fight the darklings and allow for the few remaining angels and archons to flee back to Heaven and fortify it against the inevitable assault that was to come. Finally Sidion did capture his father and crucify him before his dark host. The cruciform body of his father, racked with agony did become the battle standard for Sidion and his dark host.
And the dark host did lay siege to Heaven and Earth. While Sidion did lead his forces to the gates of Heaven, it was the supreme devil Lasshir that did lead the forces of evil unto the face of Camlann. Lasshir did have his army reinforced by the fallen dragons and their dark creations. Camlann was becoming a Hell unto itself. Elf and dwarf did raise their armies and the tribe of man did form a single great tribe to combat this threat. All manner of good creatures did join this fight. For it was a battle not just for their lives, but their very souls. The art of weapon and armor smithing did Calingronaught teach the races of Camlann. The few dragons that remained faithful servants of the gods did form a host under the command of Kryystalvk, an ancient and powerful red dragon. This earthly host did march out, with T’hetmus Brother Mountain, at it’s head. And they were defeated.
Lasshir had drank of the blood of Sidion, and thus was imbued with godlike strength and vitality. T’hetmus was defeated by Lasshir in single combat. The Stone Fisted was shackled and paraded before the dark host. Kryystalvk too was defeated by Lasshir. The great dragon’s head was mounted on a pike, the grisly visage did fill the earthly host with dread and while they were still enough in number they did flee from the dark onslaught. Darkness reigned.
Trapped on Camlann was Bellanseir, younger brother of Aunseir and the twin goddesses Daciana and Lexiana. Trapped too was Lexiana. Bellanseir did take Lexiana and they did hide beneath the hollow of a scorched tree. But safety was not Bellanseir’s intention. Long had he lusted for his sister goddess and the chaos that the dark host brought gave him the opportunity to take what he wanted. In the darkness he came to know his sister against her will. When she would be seeded with his child Bellanseir would pull it from her and consume it’s flesh. Any creature that dared near this vile sanctuary would be torn apart by the bare hands of Bellanseir. Poor Lexiana herself wasn’t spared as Bellanseir became more bestial and he began to claw at her flesh while he forced himself upon her. In time the only sound beyond his bellows of rage and feral growls that Bellanseir made was a deep gurgle that sounded as if he was saying a name over and over. That name was Kurrgar. Which is what he would be called hence forth. The Mad Beast.
Stranded on Camlann as well was the second son of Aunseir and Lavena, Aurok. In his time as a young godling Aurok spent much of his days carefree upon Camlann. Here he would race the wind spirits and wrestle the earth spirits. He pit his strength against T’hetmus in friendly competition. And he would wile away his nights in the company of nymphs and dryads. Gone now were those times, now he understood that to defeat his fallen brother Sidion he must become an instrument of divine retribution. To this endeavor he did descend deep within the earth, to the forges of Mighty Calingronaught. Here he found all manner of devils and demons. Of which, did Great Aurok slay with his own hands. Within he did find Calingronaught, chained to his own anvil and a great beast continually pounding on the god’s chest with a hammer. Punishment for not forging weapons for the armies of Sidion. Aurok did combat this beast, and did wrench it’s head free of it’s blasphemous body, both of which he cast into the fires of the Forge Lord.
Now free Calingronaught did fashion for Aurok a suit of adamantine armor known as Stone Heart, and a great maul from cold iron. Aurok did don this armor and from the wounds he received at the claws of the torturous beast did he bleed some of his power unto his great maul. Now infused, this weapon would simply be known as The Hand of Doom by it’s enemies. Aurok did then return to the surface where Lycanos, father of all wolf kind, did greet him and offer to carry the great lord into battle as his steed.
Aurok did set about to rally the forces of Camlann. Wisely he headed the lessons of Otsandir God of the Hunt, for Otsandir had been waging a hit and run war against the dark host since the defeat of the earthly forces. So too did Aurok seek council with Dagonet, whose use of trickery would bolster the small numbers at Aurok’s command. He enlisted Otsanda The Fey Princess and her woodland creatures, for Aurok knew even the smallest allies cannot be overlooked. With the strength of a thunder head and the speed of lightning did this renewed host of Aurok combat the darklings and their minions. In combat Aurok did confront Lasshir and the god did smite the devil. Wielding The Hand of Doom, did Aurok smash the devil’s bones into oblivion. Camlann was saved by Aurok The Storm Lord.
At his victory the great eagle Aquila, father of all great birds, did offer himself as steed to carry Aurok unto the heavens and confront Sidion and relieve the siege of Heaven. So did Aurok leave behind his earthly companions and ascend to heaven and avenge his father.
As Aurok took to the heavens, Dagonet spied a hideous tree. Scorched by dragon fire, the ground around it was wet and suffused with blood. Using the luck imbued to him by his father Nessmuss and the cunning of his mother Otsanda did Dagonet sneak into the dark abode of Kurrgar and the captive Lexiana. Knowing he alone could not hope to defeat Kurrgar, Dagonet sought his fellow god Otsandir. With Dagonet’s trickery Kurrgar was lured from hiding and then did brave Otsandir fire his arrows at the beast who then fled. Though growing within Kurrgar was one of his incestuous offspring, one he had consumed but refused to die. As Kurrgar hid from Otsandir, did she tare her way into the world through one of her father’s many wounds. Born sickly and with contempt and spite for all was, Drexella The Locust Queen.
Alone and borne aloft by Aquila did Aurok smash asunder the dark host that had surrounded the gates of heaven. Seeing his arrival, Holy Uronseir did lead forth the angels and archons still loyal to the light. For during the siege even members of the celestial orders of angels and archons fell prey to the honeyed words of Sidion and joined the dark host. Side by side did the weapons of Darkbane and The Hand of Doom cut their way through the dark host. Here did Aurok free his father Aunseir and take up his glaive Sun Strike and drove it through the chest of his fallen brother Sidion. As Sidion fell, Aurok The Champion of Heaven did raise up The Hand of Doom and he did finally smite The First Traitor. Screaming for vengeance, Aurok did drive what remained of the dark host back unto Hell, where the darklings did carry the lifeless body of Sidion. Aurok had become the Holy Retributor, and saved all of creation.
